Hyatt Bass wrote, directed, and produced the film 75 Degrees in July, which was released in 2006. The Embers is her first novel.

Each of these women writers is someone I got to know on Twitter. I knew their work already, and had read books by Jones and Sohn, but I hadn't interviewed any of them. When I joined the social media site back in February, I began using it to reach out to the usual suspects: People in publishing and...authors! I was surprised and delighted to see how many authors were already "Twitterate."

Remember the other day when I told you I don't often comment on the appearance of authors? Well, I have to make another exception this time, but for a different reason. Novelist Hyatt Bass arrived at The Book Studio after a long train ride from New York and was a bit flushed. Our wonderful makeup artist offered to do a little powdering, and before you knew it, Bass was getting lipstick and eyeshadow and bronzer, oh my!
But when said makeup artist waved a curling iron at her, Bass said "You know my hair really is this straight, don't you?" I had to laugh out loud, since the same curling iron whips my stick-straight locks into a meringue on a regular basis.
Fortunately, the author did not hold her mini-makeover against us (I think she looks lovely in the video, by the way).
