Tim Wendel is an award-winning novelist and journalist. He is the author of a half-dozen books, including Castro's Curveball: A Novel; and The New Face of Baseball: The One-Hundred-Year Rise and Triumph of Latino's Favorite Pastime, which was named Top History Book for 2004 by the Latino Literary Awards. Wendel's stories have appeared in Gargoyle and The Potomac Review, and his articles in The New York Times, Esquire, GQ, Washingtonian and USA Today, where he is on the Forum's op-ed Board of Contributors.

I wish I could go back and do this interview again, or do a Part Two -- and that's not because this interview isn't good! No, it's because I didn't spend enough time talking with Tim Wendel about the plot of his book, because talking with him about Japanese fire balloons was so fascinating.
