A Conversation with Steve Berry: "The Charlemagne Pursuit"

Steve Berry joins a very exclusive club with this interview -- Authors Who Have Appeared More Than Once on The Book Studio. I believe that this very exclusive club has just one other member: the very funny and very talented novelist Louis Bayard. Hey, whenever two or more of you are gathered in The Book Studio's name...

Berry has to be one of the driest wits in today's book world. His ultracalm, laidback Southern demeanor belies a sharp sense of humor and a man who truly understands how important it is for authors to connect with each other and their readers. He may barely crack a smile in this video, but he couldn't be more forthcoming about the fun he has researching complicated historical mysteries. As he says about the Voynich Manuscript (trust me; it's interesting): "I could make it mean whatever I want!"

Steve's new novel, The Charlemagne Pursuit, combines the Voynich Manuscript, the Aachener Dom, and a truly dysfunctional family of German aristocrats with lots of shady forebears. He says his ideas "just come" to him when he's looking at something or reading something: "Then I sit down and it's like a puzzle..." I hope you'll enjoy hearing Steve Berry talk about his books. Let us know what you think! By the way, he does reveal the title of his next book in the video, but you'll have to watch to find out what it is. Hey, I've got to keep a little mystery going, too...
