"Some people think life is short," says George Pelecanos in this interview. "I say life is long." By that, Pelecanos means that there are multiple chances for each and every one of us to find redemption, or The Way Home -- the title of his latest novel from Little, Brown.
In this book, one Christopher Flynn runs afoul of the juvenile justice system, with disastrous consequences for him and his entire family. Pelecanos discusses his years of work with juvenile offenders and why he feels so strongly that these kids ("And they are kids") need help and guidance.
Pelecanos himself, who is at this point virtually a D.C. treasure, had his own struggles growing up, as he hints at in this interview. I'm going to push this live now and come back to write a bit more later, because I don't want fans to miss the chance to hear from Pelecanos. Thanks for visiting!
