Everyone is going to have to forgive me (again). Normally, I listen to my reviews before I post them. However, at the moment I am in the crowded, busy, noisy lobby of the Marriott Wardman Park in DC waiting for the Romance Writers of America Literacy Signing to begin and it's too loud for me to hear anything.
This, of course, has nothing to do with Joseph O'Neill. O'Neill has probably never read a romance, and he'd certainly never write one. It's just that I can't play back our interview and comment sagely upon it.
What I can do is tell you two things:
1. Netherland is an amazing novel, and you need to read it. After all, our President has read it.
2. Joseph O'Neill is a smart, funny, and urbane man. You should watch this video just to see him!
I hope you will enjoy listening to O'Neill talk about being an immigrant, watching cricket on Staten Island, and why his character had to be Dutch. I'll be thrilled to listen in again as soon as I've escaped to a quiet place.
