If you haven't watched a video from The Book Studio before, please watch this one. It's my first "roundtable," conducted with bestselling romance authors Joan Johnston, Debbie Macomber, Carla Neggers -- and boy, did the four of us have a great time. Lots of laughter!
But also lots of great conversation about why romance novels and the romance genre have been experiencing such a huge uptick in sales. Believe it or not, according to these novelists, it's not necessarily the bad economy.
One of the most interesting set of answers is to my question about what makes a book a romance. Yes, there has to be a relationship -- but there are a few other "essential ingredients." Even if you already know what those are, you'll enjoy hearing Joan, Debbie, and Carla discuss why those ingredients are so important.
While the RWA Convention isn't always held in Washington, D.C, if I had my way this roundtable would be an annual event here on The Book Studio so that we could dig deeper into the ways in which this hugely popular and hugely diverse genre has changed and continues to change.
