I'm not afraid to admit that

I'm not afraid to admit that I read only for pleasure. I love my romance and mystery novels! One of my favorite books this year (and there are many favorite books) was Kindred in Death by J.D. Robb. I love this series because the characters keep growing and changing as each book comes out. The Eve Dallas in book one is not the same Eve Dallas in book 30. It never gets stale!

Favorite Book

My favorite book of 2009 was Water for Elephants but since that was not written on 2009 I will have to go with Pope Joan,

favorite book

My favorite book this year was Ariel Sabar's "My Father's Paradise."   It combined a moving story of a son learning to understand his father and at the same time, explored the history of the little known Kurdish Jewish community.

Ariel Sabar interview posts Jan. 11!

Like you, Sharon, I was moved by Sabar's book. My interview with him will be live here on January 11th; I hope you'll come back to watch it. Thanks for reading and commenting.

FAVORITE BOOK(S) OF 2009

I really need to add one more - a lovely new book, The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie! It's the first in a new series. If you love mysteries, you enjoy reading about 11-year-old, Flavia de Luce! The next in the series, The Weed That Strings the Hangman's Bag, will be out in March of 2010.

I have to go with How To Say Goodbye In Robot by Natalie Standiford. It was the ony I enjoyed the most while reading, and I also loved the ending and found myself thinking about it long after.

Tough call

A tough call, but my favorite book of 2009 would have to go to Suzanne Collins' Catching Fire, sequel to The Hunger Games. Fantastic, rollicking read -- and I can't wait for the third novel!

My husband and I both agreed on this one:  The Girl Who Played With Fire. Second, but very close, would be, The Help. I love to see what everyone is choosing!

I loved The Help, Snow Flower and the Secret Fan, and Water for Elephants, which wasn't a 2009 book, but I read it in 2009.  Does that count?

My favorite book of 2009

I'm not sure I can choose just one.  I loved most of the books.  They are different and therefore provided me with the litterary stimulation and thrill I like when I read a book.  However, I would choose The Girl Who Played with Fire by Stieg Larsson as my favorite if I have to just pick one.

The writing is very intelligently done.  The plot is tight, suspensful, and just awsome.  The characters are complex, believable and appealing.  Larsson parcels out information in a consistently enthralling way that makes your heart race full of anticipation.  It's a real page turner that makes you gasp at every turn, then delivers the final climax with a big bang! looooved it.

My favorite 2009 book is a very short novel, Go With Me by Castle Freeman Jr. It deals with the need for good to destroy evil and left me dizzy with questions.

Kristine

2009 Favorite Book

Pictures at an Exhibition - by Houghteling

This is not your average WWII novel - not much has been said about the French involvment and even less has been said about the looting of art works.
