Where would you set a crime or mystery novel?
I would sent a crime or mystery novel in Japan. Japan is known as a largely crimeless society, which is not untrue, but crime does exist there. All negatives, however, are swept under the rug and not discussed. I always find it interesting to read about aspects of Japan that are not readily discussed openly.
Crime Scene
The Baltimore Aquarium - just think of law enforcement eating in Fells Point, Little Italy, the medical types at U- Maryland and Johns Hopkins.
Scenes of the Crime
I would set it in Greece. The combination of ancient culture and modern amenities would create a challenging atmosphere to decipher.
crime setting
Woodstock, N.Y. because of its arts influence.

I would choose the lower portion of the Puget Sound, in Washington State. There are numerous, tranquil inlets and fjords; lined with dense forests and spotted with beach homes and small towns.
Crime Novel setting
I would set a crime novel in San Juan, Puerto Rico, or in Madrid. Both have a gritty underbelly that most people in the US don't talk about.
crime novel setting
I would write about a place where lots of people have traveled to in order to make the book more appealing and marketable - like Paris, London, Rome, and New York City. I really enjoying reading a book about a city where I have visited and recognizing the landmarks mentioned in the story.
I think, in an attempt to be
I think, in an attempt to be unique, I would set it in the future, somewhere unusual like a moon colony. Or more realistically, somewhere that I'm personally in love with, like New Orleans, Ireland, or LA.
The Amazon forest
With many legends and lush forest it will be the ideal place to set a mystery incoporating the hidden pathways, unique ecosystem of the forest.

Lincoln, Nebraska ... for no particular reason
In a small beach community on
In a small beach community on the Southern California coast.
Lawrence, Kansas --- Scene of the Crime
I would set the scene of the crime in Lawrence, Kansas, during the Bleeding Kansas era. A hotbed of anti-slavery sentiment, Lawrence's history during this time is particularly rich and ripe for an unsolved mystery.
Crime Setting Novel
Why, a cornfield in Nebraska - where all the small town folk learn there are more secrets amongst their neighbors than they ever considered. . .
Crime setting
Rural southeastern Illinois, 1934. Depression is rampant but people are not starving. Gypsies are a common sight. A young girl remembers hiding behind her father's legs when one approaches the house to ask for water...
Crime/Mystery Novel Setting
a public library in a small town
Right at this moment I say
Right at this moment I say Times Square, NY.
Where would you set a crime or mystery novel?
New York in the late 1960's, specifically, Greenwich Village. I grew up spitting distance from The White Horse Tavern where artists and writers mingled with the off-duty (I hope) detectives from the precinct across the street. Colorful characters, often morally duplicitous.
crime novel setting
In a retirement community since I now live in one and see lots of opportunity.
crime novel setting
It would have to be in a marsh in New Orleans.
Crime novel setting
Disneyworld.

Reston VA. Hey, I thought "The Hot Zone" was plenty interesting and that was real.
Crime setting
I would set it in Bar Harbor, Maine. Bar Harbor is so beautiful that nothing bad can happen there - or can it?
Argentina - a metaphorical
Argentina - a metaphorical (and not) tango in Buenos Aires twinned with a run out to the Pampas! I've often wondered why more novels aren't set there..
Setting?
I would set it someplace like Charleston, SC or Savannah, GA -- lots of mystery and manners to manuever around!
I would set a crime in a
I would set a crime in a national park since these are typically areas of such beauty. Also, I don't think national parks are typically used for the settings of murder mysteries, so it would be refreshing to see how an author handles it.
Crime Scene Setting
I'd set a crime scene in some small town in northern Minnesota.
setting for a crime novel
Oooh... I would love to read a book set in Kutna Hora in the Czech Republic (the town with the amazing chapel made of the bones of human plague victims)
Crime Scene
I'm a sucker for a place with a strange/ironic name -- like Normal, IL, or Hell, MI. Cheesy, but still works for me. Alternatively, I'd set it in a place few know about -- I've been completely fascinated by the very northern locales in the late Steig Larsson's "Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" and "Girl who Played with Fire" books.
Crime Novel Setting
I would set it in Niagar Falls.
Crime Novel Setting
sorry, I typed it wrong, should be "Niagara Falls".

I'd set it in Umbria in Italy
I'd set it in Umbria in Italy - a group of friends in a villa over looking a small town in the valley. The Cyprus trees line the unpaved road that winds all the way up the hill.
SETTING
Leadville, Colo. Love that place and the atmosphere which captures the era perfectly.
